SUMMARY:Harnessing AI for brain health: lab to market to society
DESCRIPTION:Bringing Artificial Intelligence home for a better care of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis\n13 November 2024 from 16:00-17:45 CET at Brain Innovation Days\nThe EGG Brussels\, Belgium\nArtificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is a booming field: the development of computer programs and systems able to emulate tasks normally requiring human intelligence such as recognizing patterns\, taking decisions\, evaluating and predicting is set to revolutionize the care of people with a brain disease. \nIf clinicians could provide personalised care to people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) remotely\, via an app\, what would the future look like? The future is already here. BRAINTEASER (Bringing Artificial Intelligence home for a better care of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis) is an EU-funded project seeking to exploit the value of big data (large clinical datasets\, patient-generated data from wearables and air pollution data from sensors) to advance remote monitoring and clinical decision making in MS and ALS. Through an AI-based model\, BRAINTEASER aims to promote fast\, accurate feedback between patients and clinicians. \nBRAINTEASER liaison activities aim to keep the project aligned with relevant EU and global projects and initiatives and generate synergies to maximise impact. In this context\, an impact and exploitation workshop will be held at 2024 Brain Innovation Days (BIDays) and feature BRAINTEASER clinical app to shed light on AI excellence thriving from the lab to the market to the benefit of people living with a brain condition. \nRegister now for remote attendance \nJoin us in Brussels\, 13-14 November 2024

SUMMARY:Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS): advancing clinical decision making through wearables
DESCRIPTION:EBC is pleased to hold a poster presentation “Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS): advancing clinical decision making through wearables” at the upcoming 10th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology. The Conference will take place from 29 June until 2 July April 2024 in Helsinki (Finland). \nPoster will represent the BRAINTEASER project. \nBRAINTEASER is a Horizon 2020-funded project harnessing the value of big data to develop AI-based solutions for people with MS and ALS. As a project partner\, the European Brain Council currently leads liaison activities with relevant European (EU) and global projects and initiatives with the aim of identifying key priorities in the field and speaking with one voice to foster evidence-based policymaking and improve EU healthcare systems. \nAuthors: D. SUMMARY:BRAINTEASER Mid Term Workshop
DESCRIPTION:BRAINTEASER Mid Term Workshop\nData science and artificial intelligence for supporting the care and cure of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis patients\n28th February 2023 – 09:30 – 12:00 CET\nUniversity of Padua\nUniversity of Padua Botanical Garden – Auditorium\nvia Orto Botanico\,15\, 35123 Padova\nBRAINTEASER is a data science project that seeks to exploit the value of large clinical datasets integrated with personal and environmental data collected through low-cost sensors\, to develop AI-based clinical software and mobile apps to support patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis and their clinicians. \nThe meeting is an important opportunity to share with a wider audience the first results achieved by the project through a multidisciplinary approach implemented during the last 2 years\, to discuss the most relevant issues of the models and technology put in place\, highlighting future opportunities and challenges. \nThe organization of this event comes at the end of the first phase of the project and will serve as a basis to launch the second phase or “pilot phase” that will focus on transforming the current health approach from a reactive to a predictive system focused on risk prediction\, patient stratification and prognosis. \nThe workshop will also serve as a place for reflection on the importance of transformative research\, with a view to identifying the opportunities that arise from the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience and the related strategic lines of use of the funds envisaged by the Next Generation EU Programme. \nThe event\, that can be also attended online\, will be held in the prestigious location of the University of Padua Botanical Garden. \nSince 1997 the Botanical Garden has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage List as a cultural landmark. The listing was justified by UNESCO on the following grounds: “The Botanical Garden of Padua is the original of all botanical gardens throughout the world\, and represents the birth of science\, of scientific exchanges\, and understanding of the relationship between nature and culture. It has made a profound contribution to the development of many modern scientific disciplines\, notably botany\, medicine\, chemistry\, ecology\, and pharmacy”. \nYou can register here to join the event online\, but if you wish to join us in presence please click here. \nProgramme

SUMMARY:BRAINTEASER presented at MIE 2022 as an example of fair modeling
DESCRIPTION:On May 27th 2022 Arianna Dagliati\, University of Pavia\, will contribute to the panel discussion “Explainability\, Causability\, Causality\, Reliability: The many facets of “good” explanations in XAI for health (Enea Parimbelli\, Arianna Dagliati\, Brent Mittlestadt\, Riccardo Guidotti\, Niels Peek\, Andreas Holzinger)” at MIE 2022. \nThe focus of Arianna’s talk will be on  “reliability”: When a prediction from a model is “reliable” and what it means for explainability?. \nBRAINTEASER will be mentioned as an example of FAIR modeling: the project’s data semantically integrated  and shared as open linked data according to the FAIR principles\, provide a single coherent\, machine and human processable\, searchable\, re-usable and exploitable asset beyond the BRAINTEASER consortium and the project’s itself.

DESCRIPTION:BRAINTEASER is a data science project that seeks to exploit the value of large clinical datasets integrated with personal and environmental data collected through low-cost sensors\, to develop AI-based clinical software and mobile apps to support patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis and their clinicians. The series of four Focus Group online workshops is organised with the aim of enlarging the project’s vision on users and market needs\, obtaining additional requirements and accompanying the BRAINTEASER Consortium towards the most suitable results’ sustainability and commercialisation strategy. This first workshop is aimed at offering an overview of the BRAINTEASER project as a whole\, spotting a light on the apps and clinical tools that are under development. Advocacy patient groups representatives\, clinicians\, policy makers\, ICT professionals\, ethical and standardisation experts will animate the plenary discussion. By implementing the principles of participatory design\, the experts will be engaged in a dialogue on clinical unmet needs\, diseases course\, clinical practices\, new emerging research towards the development of more accurate and personalised treatment outcomes\, to assess and enhance the BRAINTEASER solutions and its exploitation approach. \nBy invitation only  \nAgenda \n\n\n\n14:00\nWelcome and overall project presentation \nBarbara Di Camillo – BRAINTEASER Scientific and Technical Manager\, University of Padova\n\n\n14:10\nBRAINTEASER Apps \nManuel Ottaviano – Universidad Politécnica de Madrid\, LifeSTech\n\n\n14:25\nThe project’s innovation approach and exploitation challenges \nAlessia Baretta – BRAINTEASER Innovation and Exploitation Manager\, InSilicoTrials Technologies\n\n\n14 :40\nPlenary discussion \n✔   Patient associations \n✔   Medical and scientific experts \n✔   ICT experts \n✔   Policy Makers \n✔  Ethical and standardisation experts\n\n\n15 :15\n\nClosing remarks
